On September 12, 2019, at the Faculty of Russian Philology of KubSU a meeting was held with Fan Thi Xuan Loan, a journalist and translator from Vietnam, who graduated from the Faculty of Russian Philology of KubSU in 1988. These days Loan translates works of modern Russian writers into Vietnamese. This is a joint project with instructors of our university. Associate Professor of the Department of the History of Russian Literature, Theory of Literature and Criticism M.V. Sharoiko has been mentoring Loan on contemporary literature for three years. Zakhar Prilepin, Yevgeny Vodolazkin, Lyudmila Ulitskaya became familiar to Vietnamese readers thanks to the efforts and painstaking work of Xuan Loan and philologists of KubSU.
The discussion was not merely about books and writers. Loan talked about modern Vietnam, the relations between our countries, the experience of working as a journalist in international media. One can definitely say that our philology students were definitely encouraged by her example.
